We are so privileged to have shared the sighting of this wonderful bird with our clients on our last Uganda Birding tour. The shoebill is a tall bird, with a typical height range of 110 to 140 cm (43 to 55 in) and some specimens reaching as much as 152 cm (60 in). In fact the Shoebill is a bird belonging to the group known as the Pelecaniformes and is more closely related to a pelican than a stork. The shoebill bird can reach a height of 1.4. Found in swamps and marshes of the sub-Sahara countries of Uganda, Zambia, Sudan, Tanzania and Zaire. What is shoebill height Shoebills are the tallest birds in the world. With blue-white feathers, an average height of four feet, a wingspan that can reach up to eight and a half feet, and a massive eight-inch long beak, the shoebill stork can only be described as looking like a prehistoric dinosaur bird. With its massive, highly conspicuous, shoe-like bill, and 140 cm height this bird looks like something from the age of the dinosaurs and is utterly unmistakable. The birds release a loud interjection making a bill-clattering display to attract a partner. Shoebill storks have long feet that reach about 18cm, and they can reach a height of 4 to 5 feet when standing on two legs. An adult male Shoebill stork is mainly grey while the juveniles are browner. A shoebill stork weighing from 4 kilograms to 7 kilograms is a tall bird with a height ranging from 110 centimeters to 43 centimeters with length ranging. The name Shoebill stork leads to an incorrect. This bird is also referred to by other names such as the whale-head, whale-headed stork, or shoe-billed stork.
The sheer surprise when this prehistoric-looking bird (also sometimes called the whalehead, whale-headed stork, or shoe-billed stork) flies up is an experience that stays with you forever, irrespective of how many world bird species you have on your list or how well-travelled you might think you are. Shoebill stork is a bird of the order Ciconiiformes, the only member of the whale family (Balaenicipitidae).
